Saturday

Saturday in Havana - then off to Trinidad

Thanks to Jorge, who we also met at the Presidente we got into a private club/restaurant above an art gallery in Old Havana on Sat night. Fabulous place, great seafood, lovely staff and our first Mohitos! Even the taxi back was an adventure in a 42 year old Soviet Moskvich car, the size of a Hillman Imp. The driver said, "in Rusa (Russian) we say Moskvich, in Spanish we say 'mierda' (shit).

On Sunday, we picked up the rental car and set off for Trinidad....or tried to ....there are absolutely no road signs on the main highways and we kept ending up on ring-roads going back to Havana! Eventually, we found a car rental office who said, "you're lost aren't you?" as soon as we walked in. We finally got on the right road to Cienfuegos by counting traffic lights and ignoring all signs (as instructed).

We stopped for lunch in Australia and visited the crocodile reserve... pretty lame... but we got to hold a baby crocodile (for the obligatory $ 'negocio'). 5 hours later, we finally arrived in Trinidad. Las Cuevas hotel is not a great place, but the rooms are clean and spacious, set high on the hill overlooking the city and the Ancon Peninsula.

Pics of Trinidad, the rooftop photo involved a climb up a very dodgy ladder to the top of an old sugar-baron's house. Not recommended for those afraid of heights like me!

One of the many excellent bands that play in the restaurants and squares.

The beach at Ancon is beautiful but there is a huge hotel there, full of europeans learning to Salsa on the beach and/or sporting thongs!
