Queenstown sits on the edge of Lake Wakatipu and is surrounded by mountains.
It is completely geared up for the adventure-tourist (and ski-bums in winter) and the downtown area looks like a European lake & ski resort with trendy bars featuring wood, stone, steel and open fires.
The Shotover River is the where the thriller jetboat rides and bungy jumping started, and there are endless choices of daft adventure sports for the backpackers to spend their money on.
What did we do? Well, the old farts took the gondola up to Bobs Peak to look at the view (but didn’t take the Luge back down). Then we went to 'Captains Restaurant' and had a fab dinner of venison/pork and Pinot Noir (cheaper than bungy-jumping and you get to keep your stomach contents!)
