Caught the first flight to Newark in the morning and the very nice Continental man allowed us to check our 4 bags all the way through to Bristol. This gave us the whole afternoon in New York so we got the train into Manhattan and had a wander around Greenwich village and lunch in the Greenwich Brewhouse.
We decided to go downtown and visit the World Trade Center site. Quite shocking to see the enormous void in the middle of the city and I must admit to filling up a bit whilst reading the display boards.
Caught the subway back to Penn Station and were treated to a bit of classic New York.... As we pulled away from the station and everyone settled down, a man very loudly asked a woman what time it was. When she answered, 'five o'clock' he yelled back, 'no it's not... it's Do-Wop Time!' and 5 huge guys burst into perfect song and walked from car to car busking for change. Very cool.
