Ruth joined us on a visit to the Summer Palace - the Imperial retreat from hot weather for generations of Emperors. This massive park is two-thirds lake, with temples, hills, bridges and gardens.
After yesterday, the steps nearly killed us but it was a fantastic place. You start at a mock canal and waterfront shops before climbing to the top of the hill to the temples and then down the other side to a bonsai garden, lake and massive bridges. They had pedaloes on the lake which was quite choppy and the passengers were being blown into the walls - very funny.
