Koh Tao

Koh Tao is a pretty island with jungle-covered hills, sandy beaches and dramatic granite boulders. It has a really nice feel compared to Koh Sumui, and we could see why Paul & Vici stayed here for several years. Mae Head (where the ferry arrives) & nearby Sairee Beach are packed with dive shops, pubs and internet cafés, trendy shops and even Boots the Chemist!

We chose to stay at Blacktip Diving in Tanote Bay on the East coast since they had good snorkeling and offered a 25% discount on accommodation if you were diving with them.

The transfer was by 4WD pick-up truck which got pretty hairy at times as the rain had already started washing out the road on the east side.

Tanote Bay Road

Our wooden cabin was up the hillside and very well designed with a nice porch to dry your gear on.

The beach was quiet with great snorkeling plus a pack of very friendly dogs (Mr Blue, Freak & Lamb-Chop to name but a few!) Our Divemasters, Mark & Ash, (both Brits) were great fun and we rarely had more than 8 on the boat so we ended up staying 4 extra days.
