Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpar is one of the richest cities in Asia and has a variety of modern skyscrapers mixed in with colonial and Moorish buildings. It sounds like a cliché but Malaysia really is a cultural melting-pot, we saw more races and religions represented in just 5 minutes in the shopping mall than we have in the last month. Malay, Chinese, Indian & indigenous groups make up the general population and whilst Islam is the official religion, all religions are respected. In fact, the only time we noticed a distinction is when a Muslim supermarket cashier called a non-muslim staff member over to handle our purchase of packet ham!












We went to the Petronas Towers on the first day but the tickets were already sold out by 11am so we did the other most popular thing – shopping! KL is a shoppers’ paradise and the Suria mall at the base of the Towers is where we found the Sony centre and the shiny new camera that we have wanted since Tokyo!
The next day we queued for the free tickets at 8.30am and although you can only go to the sky-bridge, two-thirds of the way up, it was well worth it.



The 142m (1483ft) stainless steel & glass construction is pretty impressive during the day but at night it is stunning.
