The historic city of Melaka makes much of its Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial past, but the truth is, it doesn’t have that much to offer. Unless you like museums of course, it has more "museums" than anywhere else in the country! (not the Natural History type either).
We did go to the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum which was very interesting. (When Sultan Mansur Shah married the Chinese princess Hang Lih Po, she brought 500 staff with her. They intermarried with the local Malays and produced the Peranakan – meaning ‘born here’. Males are called Babas and females Nyonyas.
Historic square and Christ Church (which was closed).
In the ruins of St Paul’s church built in 1521 only the huge granite gravestones of the Dutch and British remain.
