Their product is very unique and for around $2000 a night, you get all meals and drinks, your own private beach every day, horse-riding, diving, sailing, windsurfing etc. Needless to say, we called the number and without any preamble, were told to meet the owner in Pacific Harbour. By Sunday, we were sat on a float-plane going out to the island to meet the staff and see what they were all about.
We had fantastic view of the Mamanucca and Yasawa island chains on the way and then the plane pulled up right on the beach. 
We got the full ‘guest treatment’ – including a serenade and welcome cocktail.
The island is stunningly beautiful and the 14 bures are set along the beach overlooking the lagoon. We were given a bure where Brooke Shields and her family stayed during the filming of the Blue Lagoon. It’s now used as the managers’ accommodation and it soon transpired that the last couple had only been in the job 8 weeks, had gone on their ‘week off’ and not come back! (danger, danger, Will Robinson!!)
The 72 year-old owner is often described as an eccentric visionary, and he has spent half his life on the island. He gave us a tour of his kingdom on his golf cart and we were shown the dams to collect rainwater, a market garden & hydroponics station, his warehouse (with more stock than a Suva hardware store) and a woodworking & machine shop with every tool known to man. Oh, and he also built a church and a high school which accommodates 60 boarders on the island!
