Fiji is renowned for it’s soft coral and all the diving from GIR is conducted in the nutrient-rich Somosomo Strait between Vanua Levu & Taveuni. The colour of the reef was incredible and despite a bleaching event a few years ago, the hard corals are very healthy.
The Great White Wall is probably their most famous dive, and it starts off with a nice swim through that takes you out to the wall covered in translucent soft coral. 
The diveboats are the basic aluminium jobs with twin outboards and wooden benches and Aqua-Trek staff, Ane, Louie and Jim very friendly. Their briefs were brief, and unfortunately, they didn’t have any Fish ID cards or books on board. Luckily, Grant from the Fiji liveaboard ‘Naia’ (naia.com.fj) joined our boat and was able to point stuff out and name everything. He found a juvenile cockatoo waspfish and this Comensal Shrimp.
