The Mekong, Tonle Sap & Bassac rivers converge here and the city has a mixture of Khmer and French architecture with wide boulevards. Temples are everywhere but quite different from the Vietnamese / Chinese / Japanese style we’ve seen so far.Tuk-tuks & motorbike taxis are abundant, but due to the smaller population, the traffic is much better than in Vietnam's major cities. You still have to close your eyes and go for it, but it's much easier!
French-style cafes & numerous restaurants line the riverfront and are far more sophisticated that anything we found in Hanoi. We also found it surprising that so many people speak English here and most of the street advertising is in English too.
Internet cafes are also everywhere but sadly, most are trying to run windows XP on 386 computers so you can’t even get hotmail to open!
