We had read about the long, straight roads of nothingness, but they really are incredible. The traffic is so limited that most drivers wave at each other when we do pass each other - which is nice (rather like the ‘biker’s nod’ back home).
‘I Spy’ is pretty limited too – ‘something beginning with… R for road-kill, R for road-train, K for kangaroo. After a while, it was COR - Crows on Road-kill, EOR - Eagle on Road-kill.
Had a quick detour to the outskirts of Port Gregory to look at the Pink Lake. Here, the dietary supplement beta carotene is produced in a vast salt lake.
Stopped for dinner by the Murchinson River but then decided to drive for another hour while it was still light and get to another free rest area north of Kalbarri. A couple towing a boat were already there and the pit toilets were clean so we set up for the night. I appreciate that this is only Day 2, but the van is surprisingly spacious and comfortable and being short, we can even sleep width-ways on the bed if we wanted to!
