The South Coast Highway is 400kms of bleak, drought-ridden wheat and sheep fields and the only excitement was the plague of locusts that committed suicide on our windscreen.
After an hour of carnage, we stopped to re-fuel and we found them jammed into every crevice of the headlights, engine & radiator! We swept them out as best as we could and left a feast on the forecourt for a lucky seagull that was mooching around.
Torndirrup National Park is just outside Albany and ‘The Natural Bridge’ & ‘The Gap’ rock formations are definitely worth a look. (Also renowned for fatal King Waves)
The super-continent of Gondwana that included Africa, India, South America, Australia & Antarctica broke apart and moved into their present positions about 15 million years ago. Geologically, the rocks here match Antarctica’s north coast exactly. Apparently, Australia is moving still drifting north by 5cm a year, so sooner or later this bridge will collapse.
