Then drove down to the much advertised, diving area of the Fleurieu Peninsula where the wreck of HMAS Hobart and Weedy Sea Dragons are found. Alas, the only company still operating was away on a charter for 3 weeks…typical!
So, we had a scenic drive through the wine region instead

I’m sure it’s wonderful for families with young children but it was all a bit ‘Fairground and camel ride’ claptrap for us. Granite Island sits just offshore connected by a 600m causeway and they use Clydesdales to pull the trams. It’s the home of Little Penguins and you can walk around the island in about 20 mins or do a guided tour at dusk when the penguins come home to roost.
The 24-hour ferry at Wellington takes you across the river and on to ‘The Limestone Coast’.
Andy had a horrible New Year’s Night. Having eaten loads of street food throughout Asia he succumbed to food poisoning in Australia! We narrowed it down to a dodgy ice-cream – since that was the only thing that I didn’t have. Sadly, ice-cream is quite possibly Andy’s favourite food group, so I hope he isn’t too put off.
