Loch Ard Gorge
There are several ‘scenic lookouts’ along the coastal road but the most famous are the Twelve Apostles (although there are only really 8 left, the other stacks having crumbled into the sea). 
No sooner had we arrived, than hordes of tourists disgorged from a fleet of coaches and the flies were awful too, so we continued east.
Next stop was Lorne – where their annual ‘Pier to Pub Swim’ was taking place.
4000 swimmers brave the icy waters and swim from the Pier to the beach about 1.2 kilometers away. 
It started as a Surf Rescue Club event but now there are so many competitors, they have to hold timed heats over 2 days, with each group of 300 differentiated by colour-coded swimcaps and leg-bands.
