5 Sep - Yangshuo – Limestone Karst country

After another overnight train (on which a Chinese man sat at the end of the cabin watching Sam & Ina sleep!) and a short bus ride, we arrived in the resort town of Yangshuo. Since opening up to the West in 1978, this stunning area near Guilin has become a popular backpacker/outdoor activity type of place.














Limestone Karsts 100m-300m high, dot the countryside and the river Li flows amongst the paddy fields and orchards.

We checked into Lisa's Mountain View Lodge - and then into town for breakfast. Yangshuo has loads of English schools and westerners living here, so the main street is full of international style bars & restaurants. By 7am we were tucking into an english breakfast in a bar! Climbing shops and bike rentals are everywhere and it's a great place to hang out and relax.
