Our guide - Zebedee

Zebedee told us his lifestory of being a Red Guard and his experiences during the Cultural Revolution. He was an English teacher at one point, but then the schools were closed and everyone had to go to the countryside for ‘re-education’. After several years, Mao wanted China to be a force in the steel industry so along with many men, Zebedee was reassigned to a factory and became a steel caster.

He now guides tourists up the mountain several times a week. This amazing man is 57 years old, as strong as an Ox and still agile enough to do handstands and the splits!

If you are in the Emei Shan area we highly recommend him. He is an excellent guide and keeps you entertained with fascinating stories, local facts and even gives Tai Chi lessons in the morning! He can be booked through the Teddybear hostel in Baguo Town or directly on Zebedee_China@hotmail.com
