Kamakura - Sep 16

Caught the train to the Kamakura and as luck would have it, we arrived on a Festival weekend. The highlight of which is a spectacular demonstration of 'Yabusame' - mounted archery in which competitors shoot arrows at three targets along a 260M roped off area in the temple grounds.

Better still, the owner of the Classic Hotel Aji-Sai where we were staying, was himself a champion Yabusame (rider/shooter/thingy) and gave us tickets to get alongside the ropes at the Tsurugaoka-Hachimangu Shrine. The bows were enormous and they shot & reloaded their arrows at full gallop while guiding the horses with their legs – very impressive!
