Hakone

Hakone is a popular resort area with many hot springs and a great mountain railway & bus system that links the communities together.

We stayed at the Fuji-Hakone guesthouse in Sengoku which was wonderful. It was traditional Japanese guesthouse with tatami mats, futons and Yukata robes to wear around the place. It even had it's own hot springs 'Onsen' bath that you could reserve for 30 minutes at a time.

Weather was crappy due to a Typhoon off the coast of Japan so we didn’t get to see Mount Fuji.

However, we took the cablecar up to Owakudani to sample a famous Hakone black egg – cooked in the sulphur springs and meant to increase your life expectancy by 7 years!
