Mount Emei

We left at 7am the next morning for the Summit of Emei Shan with monkey sticks in hand (really – they are for beating back the monkeys). Our local guide ‘Zebedee’ met us at the bus station for the 2 hour trip to 2600m. This was pretty hairy at times, as the driver kept overtaking on blind corners. Zebedee yelled “Hairpin” so you could hold on, just before the bus careered around the bend. He also advised everyone, “remember… if sleeping, head and arms inside the bus” (top tip!)
















We stopped to get our passes, complete with digital photo – which made us all look like Coneheads! Then a cable-car took us up through the clouds to the Golden Summit - Jinding Peak (3077m) to a flat area with a gold, silver and bronze temple and a massive gold 10-headed Buddha astride the heavenly 6-tusked elephants.




















Obviously impressed, we asked Zebedee how old the monument was. “One year – just a baby” he replied. Hmmmn… not so impressive after all.
